Time To Reduce The Number Of Midweek Matches

Last updated : 08 June 2015 By KM

I am happy to support calls to reduce the amount of midweek league matches that clubs in League One and League Two play.

In this coming season, there are forty free Saturday's for league matches meaning that the Sky Blues could play a minimum of six league midweek matches. Add to that, League Cup, JPT,  possible FA Cup replays and re-arranged games and that is a lot of holiday that supporters have to book or make arrangements to get to.

Many supporters struggle to make it to midweek matches due to circumstances dictated by their employment/college/school/university or personal committments and those who live out of Coventry are not helped by the fact that public transport is not as plentiful at 10pm at night as it is at 5pm on a Saturday afternoon.

With supporters struggling or not able to get to midweek matches, City have had some really low attendances for some of their midweek games over the last few seasons and as we all know, supporters don't travel to away league matches from which the club's get a 5% cut of the tickets sold, in the numbers they would for a Saturday game.

So I am happy to join those in urging the Football League to look at reducing the number of midweek league matches as they are not good for their member clubs or the vast majority of supporters.
