A teenage Coventry City fan who lobbed a blue smoke grenade onto the pitch during the first match of the season has been banned from football games for three years

Cameron Ross, aged 18, was spotted throwing the explosive during the second half of the game against Yeovil Town on August 18.

He was charged with throwing a missile at a football match a few days later and appeared in court on Friday.

Ross, of Cook Close, Longford, admitted the charge in court and was handed the three-year football banning order as well as a £150 fine.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “If someone is convicted of a football related crime, be it violence or anti-social behaviour, we will seek a banning order from the court.

“That order can be imposed for between three and ten years.

“The act can be at a ground or away from a ground, but if it’s football related we will seek a banning order.”

As well being ordered to pay a fine, Ross was also told to pay £100 costs and a £15 victim surcharge and given a three year banning order, which if breached could see him receive a sentence of up to six months.
