Andy Thorn went to bed last night a relieved man safe in the knowledge that not only had he secured the signing of a promising young attacking midfielder, but also that he had managed to keep his top scorer Lukas Jutkiewicz from going out on loan.

Southampton and Middlesbrough were both known to be keen on taking Jutkiewicz on loan with a view of signing him on a permanent deal in January, but Coventry need his services as they fight to avoid relegation.

However, Coventry also desperately need money and the board could be tempted to sell a prized asset if the offer was good enough.

A relieved Thorn said, “Juke’s still here and we’re pleased about that. I’m sure he’ll be scoring a few more goals for us.”

Richard Wood and Freddy Eastwood were both subject to late enquiries, but Thorn rejected Chesterfield's enquiry about Wood and Cheltenham's move for out of favour striker Eastwood fell through as he has a calf injury.
