Paul Telfer has quit AFC Bournemouth in order to help the cash stricken club.

The former City player has a foot injury which needs surgery and mean he would miss the rest of the season. Instead of picking up his wages every month, Telfer has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

AFC Bournemouth Chairman Jeff Mostyn said to his club's website: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Telfer for his amazing gesture of support.

"Paul has proved himself to be the ultimate professional and could have chosen to have his operation, which will result in him missing the remainder of the season, and received full pay.

"In order to help the club in its current financial position, he chose to cancel his contract and will receive no further pay. I can not think of a greater gesture of support at this moment in time for the football club."
