Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that City supporters will start coming back to the Ricoh Arena when there is something for them to get excited about.

Mowbray, who is aware of sections of the City support after meeting members of the SCG on Thursday night, told Andy Turner of the Coventry Telegraph: “We have to wait and see if we get a few more.

“I can’t put a gun to anyone’s head and say they have to come to the match. They’ll come to the match if they get excited about something that might be happening or if the team is doing better and there’s some positivity.

“Football’s an expensive business for supporters these days and they need a level of entertainment and hope that their team are going in the right direction rather than just plodding along, and that’s what we have to try to create.

Do I hope the crowd will be bigger? I remember going back to Middlesbrough after playing a lot of years there and enjoying a lot of success.

"Was there a huge lift in crowd? Maybe there was a few thousand more but the bottom line is the nights when you get the 30,000s, the 27s and 28s at the Ricoh, I hope they are sometime in the future because the team are performing to a level where they want to come and watch them play.

“I wouldn’t expect a huge uplift in the crowd immediately but what will create that will be performances and results on the pitch.”
