Coventry City Academy boss Richard Stevens has said that he is pleased that Ivor Lawton will get another chance with the Sky Blues.
Lawton has been offered a one year deal by City and speaking about the Cov Kid, Stevens said to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “I am really pleased Ivor has been given the chance to come back again because I think he’ll give everything.
“Certainly, if he’s given the chance to play in midfield I think he’ll have a good season in the 21 group and be a really good influence on the younger boys.
“He’s had an indifferent season purely because he’s such a great lad that he’s played in positions for the good of the team and not necessarily for the good of himself.
"He’s played as a full-back and a centre-back after spending all his younger years playing as a central midfield player and a front half player scoring goals as an attacking midfielder.
“Part of players’ development is being part of a team and he’s got no problem with that.
“If the Under-21s are going to be young next year you do need a senior pro in there but also young men who have great values, and Ivor has that. He’s a natural leader and bleeds sky blue; he’s Coventry through and through.
“He’s a real competitor, wants to win everything and that rubs off on the team.
“And I think the manager has seen those human qualities in Ivor that he likes – a leader, winner and a motivator. There is nothing left in him when he leaves the pitch, no matter what he does and he will attack next year hard; really hit it with enthusiasm.
“Football and winning means a lot to him. He doesn’t like losing or playing badly. He’s very analytical and wants to be something. He has a clear definition of what Ivor Lawton is in his head and that’s what he lives.
“He can be intense but he’s a lovely kid and you get him outside the emotion of football and he’s a wonderful kid. He just needs an opportunity.”
