Steve Mokone RIP

Former Coventry City player Steve "Kalamazoo" Makone has sadly died.

The first black South African player to play in a professional European league, joined City in 1955 but only made four appearances plus one as a substitite.

His career took him to Heracules Amelo, Cardiff City, FC Barcelona, Marseille, Torino and Valencia before playing in Australia.

Mokone moved to America but found himself in jail and served a ten year sentence in New York before being released in 1990.

Recently, he had been battling illness in a hospital in America and died just four days before his 83rd birthday.
