Coventry Sphinx battled supremely well and took their chances in a highly entertaining 3-1 victory tonight at Tividale.

Luke Hopkins fielded in three new signings in Tom Dyke from Stratford and former City youngster Tom Cudworth with Harry White on the bench and his team were straight on the attack with a first minute corner and Ricky Cutting driving in a shot three minutes later.

Tividale, who had beaten Studley 7-0 on Saturday, came into the game, creating a bit of pressure on a Sphinx defence that was well marshalled by Tom Cudworth but in the 20th minute, they broke and Ricky Cutting got down the left and rounded the keeper to fire into an empty net.

Richard Taylor should have levelled a minute later but his right footed shot was wide of Martin's left hand post.

In the 36th minute a foul on Johal, gave Sphinx a free kick, some twenty yards out. Danny Fraser struck Evans' left hand post and there was Rikki Cutting to touch home the loose ball after it had cannoned off a defender.

Martin made a good save from Jukes who was replaced at the interval by Brady who had the home side's first shot on goal in the second half after an early corner had been cleared.

Dion Barrett, who had a fine game in midfield, superbly blocked a 52nd minute corner before Martin caught Tividale's third corner of the half.

Sphinx, with former Coventry City forward Iyseden Christie pushing on, had a 54th minute attack cleared. Tividale broke through Ian Russell and the ball came across for Kyle Brady to sweep past Martin from twelve yards.

Ashley Jackson came on for Sphinx, who was defending heroically whilst making raids on the Tividale goal as often as possible and fired over just after the hour mark as Sphinx looked to get another goal that would put this game to bed.

As the game continued to ebb and flow, Paskin headed over a 67th minute corner before Evans made a great save from Christie who was adjudged to have been offside.

Two minutes later, a header from a Tom Cudworth corner went just over but Tividale, went up the other end and hit the post through Richard Taylor.

Tividale were now having too much of the play for the liking of the Sphinx support. Russell and Brady twice went close as did Christie at the other end.

With ten minutes to go. Sphinx got the third goal they had been seeking when they attacked down the right through Cutting and substitute Harry White on his debut, clipped the ball past the keeper.

Evans then got down to a Cudworth free kick, Martin, brilliantly, pushed a Brady shot onto the bar and Cutting had a shot pushed round for a corner as Sphinx took a deserved win and moved out of the relegation zone.
