Carl Nolan has said that the Coventry Sphinx manager's job took up too much of his time.
Speaking to the Coventry Observer, Nolan said: "I know my reputation has taken a bit of a knock for this but the whole situation turned into a bit of a nightmare.
"I knew it was going to be difficult but it was a massive strain on me and I decided enough was enough.
"I had just started a new business venture and with the Sphinx job added on top of that, I found my mobile phone was complete non-stop day and night.
"I assembled a management team of five to take some of the pressure off, but I lost three of them and with the level of commitment Andy Taylor and myself were putting it, I just felt the job was eating up every second of my life."
Andy Taylor who steered Sphinx to a 3-1 victory at Tipton on Saturday will remain in caretaker charge until further notice.
