Sphinx Blow Chance To Go Top

Coventry Sphinx blew the chance to go back top of the Midland Combination when they drew 1-1 with leaders Barnt Green Spartak tonight at Sphinx Drive.

Craig Martin had given Sphinx the lead after 75 seconds and smacked the crossbar early in the second half.

Barnt Green's keeper made some fine saves throughout the game thwarting a Sphinx side who brought on Covsupport sponsored Danny McSheffrey as sub in the 80th minute.

With five minutes of normal time left, Nathan Campbell made the most of a short back pass and rounded Sphinx custodian Lee Wilson to give the Alvechurch based side a share of the points.

Coventry Sphinx Youth team continue to progress in the FA Youth Cup. John Woodward's side won 2-1 at Belper last night with two goals in three minutes from Robert Lawson (65) and James Halton (68). Sphinx now travel to Tamworth on October 9th in a Second Round Qualifying game.
