Coventry Sphinx were back to winning ways with a superb 3-1 victory at Tipton Town.

Andy Taylor took charge of the team following the resignation of Carl Nolan and was able to field experienced Iyseden Christie in his starting line up.

In the sixth minute, the referee Mr. Checkitts penalised the Tipton defence for a back pass. Rhodes had a his free kick blocked. The ball fell to Tom Muldoon who drove into a side netting.

Scott Furlong in the Sphinx goal, was in fine form and pushed over a Martin shot in the 11th minute.

Sphinx then took control. Christie won a corner and then met that flag kick with a header that hit the underside of the bar and came down. The net moved but whether it was due to the keeper's hand or ball it was hard to say. The Sphinx support, sat in the stand on a glorious afternoon at the Tipton Sports Academy, felt that the ball was over the line but Mr Checkitts pointed for another corner.

The support did have something to cheer in the 29th minute when Ash Jackson curled in a free kick into the bottom corner.

Then five minutes later, Jackson turned provider and crossed from the left and there was Tom Muldoon at the back post to bang home.

Tipton made three changes at the break but six minutes into the second half, they were three goals down.

A free kick was awarded, some twenty yards out and in a central position. A crowd of Sphinx players lined up to take it and Jack Taylor did, scoring with a low effort.

Tipton pulled one back in the 58th minute through Karl Edwards and gave Sphinx some nervous moments.

Scott Furlong had to make a great double save in the 65th minute, first with his legs and then diving to his right but the storm was weathered.

Sphinx, who had the likes of Ash Jackson, Alex. Unitt, Ross, Ritson and Christie, all having fine games along with Furlong, started to create chances with Cutting, Christie and Barratt (pictured below) all going close late on as Sphinx recorded a welcome victory.
