Coventry Sphinx Football Club would like to announce the appointment of Paul Charnley as first team manager in succession to Martin Ascroft who resigned last week.

Charnley was appointed as assistant manager by Ascroft in the summer of 2004. The committee feel that he has the respect of the players and that he is in the perfect position, stepping up from assistant, to take the club forwards and continue the success achieved over the past couple of seasons.

Secretary Neil Long: “Once the shock of Martin’s resignation last week had passed Paul indicated that he would be happy to take the job on should he be offered the position and we are delighted that we have been able to move so quickly in appointing him as manager. He ensures stability within the club and the continuity required for the players as we lie in second position in the Midland Combination and are also still involved in three major cup competitions”

Charnley takes his first training session as manager tonight in preparation for Saturday’s visit of top of the table Atherstone Town at Sphinx Drive 2.45pm.
