Embattled Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has received a few words of encouragement from Manchester United supremo Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sir Alex phone Andy Thorn to check n the progress off Manchester United's young midfielder Oliver Norwood, who is on loan at City until the end of the season.

Thorn revealed that Sir Alex is pleased that Norwood decided to join Coventry City.

He said to the CT's Andy Turner: “I had a conversation with Sir Alex about Olly and he said he was pleased he’s come here. It’s the first time we’ve spoken since the lad joined us and he said he’s been pleased with the reports from his scouts who have been at some of our games watching him.

“He asked me what I thought of the kid and I told him that’s he’s a lovely lad who is a credit to Manchester United. He’s a good player who conducts himself well, as every good pro should.

“They will keep tracks on him to see how he’s developing and it was nice because he told me to keep going because all the reports he’s had suggest we’re doing the right things and he said we just need to keep plugging away and he’s sure it will come for us.

“So it was nice to hear a few encouraging words. I did ask him if he’d got anyone else we could have but he said he needs the boys Giggs and Rooney for the final run in!”
