Sky Blues in the Community have announced their Coventry City player ambassadors who are supporting their themed charitable work during the 2014/15 season.
The community team is a registered charity, which is supported by the Professional Footballers Association through the Football League Trust, the Premier League and obtains funding through local and national grants, to deliver initiatives for people of all ages across Coventry and Warwickshire.
The work of the charity spans four key strategic themes; Sport, Health, Education and Inclusion, with a range of projects and activities taking place across all of the themes, over seven days a week.
Community Director David Busst said “The work of the community team continues to grow year on year and it is really important to showpiece the excellent work going on in the local community under the banner of Coventry City Football Club.
“We are very fortunate at the club that Steven Pressley and many of the players really buy into the value of working in the local community, as well as understanding the kudos associated with players supporting community projects and activities.”
Defender Reda Johnson was named PFA Player in the Community at last year’s Football League Awards for his community work during his time at Sheffield Wednesday, and he is nominated as the ambassador for the Sky Blues Inclusion work – which includes working with hard to reach young people and disability football.
Johnson is joined by Coventry-born Connor Thomas, who was named the club’s Player in the Community last year – who takes the role as Education Ambassador.
Fellow Academy graduate Ryan Haynes will play an active role in supporting the work under the Sport theme, with midfielder John Fleck becoming the Health Ambassador.
Busst added “We are delighted to reveal this year’s Ambassadors – all of whom have demonstrated a commitment to community work during their time at the club.”
