Coventry City Development Officer Steve Waggott feels that City boss Mark Robins can be the next Kevin Keegan.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Waggot said; “It’s a great shame we got relegated because the Championship gives you a lot more leeway in terms of finances and kudos, but we are where we are.

“But my belief is we’ll come back stronger and better with Mark Robins in charge. He could be exceptional going forward and, more than anything, I hope it’s going to be an exciting era for the fans because they must be absolutely brow beaten.

“I often speak about Newcastle where the shipbuilding is gone, engineering gone, where the city was going and the club were going – very similar to the demise of Coventry as a manufacturing base and journey of this club.

“And in walked this guy who was 5ft 7-5ft 8 tall called Kevin Keegan and he just oxygenated not only the football club but, because he made that successful, businesses would come to the match and the businesses would then get themselves to Newcastle.

“He, to me, started off the way Newcastle captured the North East to the annoyance of Sunderland and Middlesbrough as an economic base. They have become the capital where the money goes in and that guy turned the city around by the success of the football club.

“It was unbelievable to watch – an incredible journey and we need to get Coventry City Football Club with Mark Robins – who was a similar sized striker – coming in and trying to be a catalyst for change.”
