A man killed while working on a sewer yesterday was former Coventry City and Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane’s cousin, the Football Association Of Ireland has confirmed.

Alan Harris was overcome by fumes, believed to be methane gas, when he began inspecting underground pipes in a housing estate in the Portmarnock area of north Dublin.

His brother Steve was rendered unconscious by the fumes but was rescued by the fire brigade and is being reported as being in a serious condition in Beaumont Hospital in north Dublin.

Keane trained with the Republic Of Ireland squad today ahead of the Euro Qualifier and said nothing but the FAI have confirmed that the incident involved members of Keane's family.
