Peter Reid has again been linked with a move for former Portsmouth player Sebastian Schemmel. The French defender who play for Pompey Reserves against City earlier in the season and is now without a club after his contract with the South Coast club expired.

Reid said: "We are trying to do something and we are looking at a couple of people.

"To be fair we have been doing that a lot recently. I think for the first one we had possession and gave it away and it was Billy Smart's Circus after that. It was another mistake for the second and then we were up against it.

"The game plan was to try to frustrate them because what we can do is keep the ball, but that went out of the window after four minutes which is particularly disappointing.

"We talk about it and we impress upon the players how important it is to defend but we keep giving bad goals away, as we did against Wigan as well, so it is not as if we don't work on it but it keeps happening and we keep shooting ourselves in the foot."

"Young goalkeepers all get days like that and it will be great for his experience, although not great for mine. "Even the best keepers have those days."

"We knocked the ball about and passed it but didn't get any penetration and it is still the same old story in terms of defending.

"But playing Middlesbrough away is different to playing Reading at home and that is a massive game for us now and we need to get three points. "It is going to be hard. The players can take heart from the way they passed the ball but they know what the problem is and they can't give goals away."
