Former Coventry City youngster Craig Reid is delighted to be back playing in the Football League.

The striker who was brought in from Ipswich to replace the disgraced Roy O'Donovan as a youngster, last tasted Football League experience with Cheltenham Town after Micky Adams denied him any first team football at Coventry City, despite Reid's goalscoring exploits for City Reserves.

Coventry born Reid played his last season at Coventry without wages in a bid to try and win a contract and his goals earned him a move to Cheltenham Town before a spell at Grays Athletic.

Reid who then moved from Newport County where he had scored 58 goals in less than two years, completed a move which broke the Stevenage record for buying a player and signed a two and a half year deal on Monday night at 10pm, after he had been watched by a host of clubs including Coventry City and Stoke City to name but a few.

Speaking to The Comet, Reid, who also had interest from Luton Town, managed by former City Academy boss Richard Money and Crawley Town said: "The money aspect doesn't bother me but it shows how much they wanted me and I just want to score lots of goals for them.

"I found out on Monday morning that Stevenage were interested and that there was five or six other clubs that had put offers in.

"I spoke to the manager and he really sold Stevenage to me, what they're trying to achieve and that they match my ambitions.

"The gaffer said they've been interested in me for a while and I didn't know that personally but it's nice to be followed by other managers.

"That just shows me how ambitious the club is and what they're trying to achieve," he said.

"I'm delighted to get the chance to play back in the Football League."
