Really Disappointing - Mellon

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon said that his side's 3-0 defeat to Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena was disappointing.

Mellon told his club's website: It’s a really disappointing scoreline even though we’ve come up against a very good side.

“We made it difficult for ourselves even though we have to admit that they looked like one of the better sides we’ve played this season.

"When you’re playing against teams like this, you always know that a brief lapse in concentration or you’re not showing that bit of quality that you need defensively at certain moments, that you’re going to get punished.

"And with the quality they had up front they definitely did that today.

“It’s always a difficult time when you concede a goal right on half-time, because at one-nil you feel you can have a chat about things only being a goal down.

"I was miles away from it and so can’t say whether it was a penalty or not but he’s given it and suddenly it’s two-nil instead of one.

"It’s irritating that we’ve conceded so many penalties, I think that’s six or seven now and it’s just not good enough.

"Players are diving in instead of showing a bit more composure and anticipating things so we can do a bit better so yeah, it’s disappointing.

"The team continued to fight as they always do and you can’t say that their effort levels weren’t good enough ‘cos they’ll always fight for you.

"But it just wasn’t to be today.”
