Quartet Face Possible Loans

Coventry City young quartet Ashley Cain, Adam Walker, Curtis Wynter and Jermaine Grandison all face being loaned out in order to gain experience.

The youngsters who progressed through City's Academy all had first team experience last season but with no reserve team football to aid their development, they may have to be loaned out in order to gain the experience required.

"Not all four are ready for regular first -team football at Championship level, although they are ready to dip their toes in the water but they will be in and around it, training with the first team." said City Academy Boss Greg Rioch to the CT.

"It might be a case that one or two of them might have to go out on loan to gain first team experience, which is what I did as a young player, and what David Beckham did when he went off to Preston.

"The idea is to see if we can get them some league football next year and gain another contract and progress further at Coventry.

"We have to be realistic. There are not that many 17 or 18-year-olds in the Championship or Premiership but I think you have got to be looking at where they are by the time they are 20. Are they breaking in and getting regular first-team football?

"You get the exception, the likes of Aron Gunnarsson and he could be anything he wants when he is 21 or 22. "But we have got to be patient with the four that have moved up and we are not expecting too much. We have got to set them targets.

"They were very professional when they made their debuts. They were very nervous but the credit goes to their families and how they have been brought up because they are polite lads who have got a bit about themselves and a lot of hunger and desire, and they acquit themselves in the right manner.

"They have stepped up to the first team and will be training with the manager and first team and Steve Harrison, who I know from my time as an apprentice at Millwall and is an outstanding coach - one of the best in the country and the lads will learn so much from him.

"It's their opportunity now to break into the first team and if they are good enough they will. "But I am sure they will get a look in during the pre-season if they haven't already gone out on loan.

"I have told them to latch on to Steve and Frankie Bunn because after training they should be doing extra.

"Latch on to the fitness coach Andy O'Boyle to ensure they become physically stronger because that's all part of their development."
