Plans To Change Substitute Laws

There are plans to change the laws of the game regarding substitutes leaving the field of play.

How many times, have we seen a team make a late change and the player being replaced sloping off the pitch, trying to waste as much time as possible, heading back to the bench?

Yesterday, the International Football Association Board met in Glasgow and put forward a new law change which will allow a player to leave the pitch at the nearest sideline or goal-line, rather than trooping off the pitch towards the technical areas and dugouts.

The IFAB have proposed to drop the ABBA format for penalties but use yellow and red cards for match officials.

Other changes proposed include; Changes to the dropped ball procedure; Goalkeepers only being required to have one foot on the goalline when a penalty is taken; The ball not having to leave the penalty area at goal-kicks and Defending team free-kicks taken inside the penalty area.

Changes will be voted upon at the IFAB AGM on March 2nd.
