Coventry City have taken Sunderland's Matt Piper on a two week trial with a view to a longer loan.

The 24 year old winger formerly with Leicester City will spend two weeks training at Ryton before Micky Adams has to make a decision about a loan. He has been iout with an ankle injury which required an operation and has only played once for the Mackems this season in a league cup tie against Cheltenham.

Sunderland boss Micky Adams told the club's official website: "I let Matt go to Coventry because he's fit and he's training. I don't need to know anything more about him and really he needs to go and get games somewhere.

"I asked Micky [Adams] if he'd have a look because he knows him and Pipes is happy to go for two weeks. Let them [Coventry] see first-hand that he's fit. We'll see what they think and what we want to do after that. It's with a view of them taking him on loan."
