Parkin has medical at Coventry

Cardiff City striker Jon Parkin was put through a strenuous medical at Coventry City's Ryton training ground yesterday as part of a deal that will see Ben Turner leave the club for Cardiff and Parkin plus £750,000 go to Coventry.

Parkin apparently looked exceedingly fit during his work out at Ryton despite the jokes about his size on a variety of social networking sites.

Parkin is probably not Andy Thorn's ideal choice of striker, but if the deal does go through before the transfer window closes at 11:00 pm tonight, it would be seen as a sensible bit of business as Thorn has too many central defenders and not enough strikers.

Any deal that sees surplus players leave in exchange for a needed player and a large cash sum has to be good news for a beleaguered side. However Parkin has yet to agree personal terms with The Sky Blues.

The 29 year old, 6'3" striker, nicknamed "The Beast" would bring some welcome experience to a very young Coventry side, but his style of play is at odds with the attacking, free flowing style of play advocated by Thorn.

Parkin is seen more as a target man for the hated long ball game, but he could make a useful partner for City's other big striker Clive Platt. Parkin's inclusion in the side would certainly give Thorn another attacking option.

Even if Parkin rejects a move to Coventry, Turner could still move to Cardiff on a cash only deal, but Parkin would still be surplus to requirement by Cardiff boss Malky Mackay.
