Coventry City legend Steve Ogrizovic has said that he hopes former City defender Kenny Sansom can win his battle against Alcoholism.

Sansom is to get specialist treatment after suffering a relapse in his long standing battle against the booze.

Speaking about Sanson, who also played for Arsenal, Everton and England, Steve Ogrizovic told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner:

“Kenny was a terrific footballer who was very popular when he was at Coventry,” said Sky Blues legend Steve Ogrizovic.

“He’d done pretty much everything in football when he came to us but he never gave the impression that he was better than anyone else. He’s a thoroughly nice person who fitted straight in and enjoyed his football.

“I think we’re all very sorry to hear about his problems and all wish him all the best. He obviously needs to get on top of his demons and hopefully checking into a clinic is a positive step for him.

“I have seen this can happen in football because it gives people such a good lifestyle but it all comes to an end at a very young age and then it’s a question of what you do with the rest of your life. Some people find that hard to come to terms with.”
