Mowbray Wants To Bring Through Players

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he wants to bring through some of the young players the club has.

Mowbray, who is going to be hampered by budget restraints due to Financial Fair Play rules and a lack of a budget from the owners, which would get City out of the divison as Bristol City did last season, will again have to rely on the players he can bring through, being good enough to win matches and speaking about these to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Mowbray said: “I enjoyed watching the Under-21s last season and I think there are some players there who have the potential to become first-team players.

“It’s exciting for the local support, of course, because every club likes to see its home grown players come through the system and get into the team and give it an identity that it can grasp hold of and hopefully we can do that because there are a few I am quite excited about.

“The timing is always important because you don’t want to put them in too early and cost you goals or games, or have to bring them off after half an hour because they are finding it difficult.

“You just have to keep talking to them and bringing them along.

It’s better to dip a young player into a team that’s strong and winning football matches,” he said.

“Sometimes it’s very difficult to ask a young player to save your team, so we’ll see how the season goes along and see what impact the young players have.”
