Mowbray: It Will Be Interesting Watching From The Stands

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that it will be interesting watching the Sky Blues from Crewe's main stand tomorrow as he serves a one game touchline ban.

Mowbray, told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: “It will be interesting. I’ve watched plenty of games from the stands, but watching my own team... I don’t know.

“Some dugouts are really poor – the camber of the pitch means you’re below grass level which is why you sometimes choose to stand up and watch the game – and sitting higher up shouldn’t be a problem because most of this job is about preparation.

“We have a two-day build-up to every match, working on who’s playing, how we’re going to play, how the opposition’s going to play so hopefully the team knows exactly what they’ve got to do when the game kicks off.

“Do you want to be a manager who spends his whole time on the touchline, red in the face, shouting and screaming at everybody? Not really because that suggests you haven’t done your work during the week – your team isn’t ready or the opposition is doing something you totally didn’t expect.

“I like to think that the team know how to play, they know the common thread of what we do week in week out and those basic demands don’t change.

“But, of course, managers can have an impact with their substitutions and every now and then you want to bark at somebody to work harder or do something different.

“When things aren’t going well you want to change things, get somebody doing something different and the impact of your voice on the sidelines can sometimes make a bit of difference .

“You don’t want to be on the phone all the time – I think it’s an instinctive game and by the time you can change the thing you want to change, something else is happening on the pitch.

“Let’s wait and see. Hopefully the team can perform and make it a nice relaxing day for me but that’s unlikely because, as we’ve seen, every game is difficult.

“I’m sure there will be times, especially in the second half, when you’re deciding who’s going to be the impact players off the bench this week.”
