Mowbray in talks with Proschwitz

Coventry City manager has revealed he is holding talks with striker Nick Proschwitz w.ith a view to signing the unpopular striker on a permanent deal.

Proschwitz only managed one goal while on loan last season and will be best remembered for hatful of missed chances, including a gilt edged opportuntity from the penalty spot again the last game of the season at Crawley.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, Mowbray said, “I have been pleased with Proschwitz who I think is a goalscorer and with the right ammunition would score 20 goals a season. Not that we’ve seen that on the pitch but I have seen it every day in training and he would score goals, I am pretty sure.

“Nick was signed for a lot of money and was on a lot of money at Hull City where they got promoted to the Premier League and, for whatever reason, he’s drifted away from Hull and found it difficult there.

“I watched him for the first time on our training ground where he was probably the most clinical footballer we had and yet you have to put it into context with the fact that he hadn’t played a lot of football when he came here, either at Brentford or Hull really and yet what I see on the training ground doesn’t lie. He was very clinical and what did he have to get him up to speed? Maybe six games or something because he didn’t feature in the first games I was here because he was usually the spare player out because of the amount of loans we had.

“So I think he’s worth persevering with and exploring, because he’s out of contract. To go from what his earning potential might have been at Hull City, for instance, it would be a big call if we could get him to stay on.

“I appreciate he didn’t score bags of goals for us. But, again, I am going back to what I see on the training ground every day and his ability to finish with consummate ease – I just feel that if he was match fit and playing he could potentially score a lot of goals for us if his confidence levels were up because I can see the fact that he knows where the back of the net is.”
