Mowbray - Stokes Will Have A Battle On His Hands

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said he is expecting Chris Stokes to have a battle to keep his shirt from Ryan Haynes.

Stokes, who is now a free agent after being released by Forest Green Rovers, is away on honeymoon but is expected to sign a new deal with the Sky Blues on this return.

“Stokes got a battle on his hands, of course, with young Ryan Haynes to compete and try to get in the team,” said Mowbray to Andy Turner of the Coventry Telegraph.

“While Ryan didn’t really feature under me apart from as a late sub I am aware of his talent and hopefully he’ll have a good pre-season and come back and force his way into the team.

“He’s got the talent, mobility and quality to get into our team, and yet he has to show me that really. So there’s the competition for left-back in the side with a young boy against a lad who has come from the non-leagues and who is very hungry.

“They are different types of players but I am looking forward to that competition and seeing who forces their way into the starting line-up come August.”
