Lowe in Court

Former City striker Onandi Lowe, 30, now of Woolwich, London, pleaded not guilty to possession of cocaine when he appeared before Wellingborough magistrates on Tuesday.

The court was told that Mr Lowe signed for a package posted from America to his then home in Rushden, Northamptonshire.

Jurors were told by prosecutor Julia Barnett the 1.17kgs of 71% pure cocaine had been intercepted by police and replaced with flour and the cocaine would have had a street value of £117,000. Lowe who made one full appearance and one substitute appearance for the Sky Blues was arrested in his car on April 14th and suspended by Coventry City officials.

The Jamaican was formally charged on July 14th and magistrates today remanded him on conditional bail to reappear for a committal hearing on September 14th at Wellingborough.

The woman arrested with Lowe, Rochelle Anne-Marie Palmer, 23, pleaded not guilty to one charge of possession of crack cocaine after 6.9g of crack was allegedly found in a pair of trainers in his flat in Hayden Court, Rushden and was also remanded on unconditional bail to reappear on the same date.

Meanwhile, Terry Yorath,a player who was a hero to many City supporters was full of remorse after admitting to driving with excess alcohol and without due care and attention after an accident on June 24th. Yorath had almost  four times the permitted amount. His case was adjourned by Leeds magistrates until August 24th for pre-sentence reports.
A Kurdish asylum seeker has pleaded guilty to throwing stones at a group of Coventry City supporters after the Wigan Athletic home game last season. Sameer Mahmand was caught on CCTV and will be sentenced on September 7th along with a Coventry City supporter who retaliated by throwing a stick.
