Speaking to the CT, Best who has scored six times so far this season, said: "I was very worried, particularly given my form, because I just want to keep playing.
"It is a little eye opener for me to remind me that I can't take my foot off the gas.
"I have had a bit of bad luck with injuries in recent seasons and it is the way we play at the minute with balls coming up and I have to put myself about and challenge defenders so I am going to get knocks and bruises, but I need to keep playing and hopefully stay injury free."
On his injury, Best who wants to be playing so he can be included for Ireland's World Cup Qualifying Play-Offs against France said: "I went up for a header in the Cardiff game and I felt a blow on my right leg when I landed and I tried to run it off.
"But it swelled up straight away inside and I couldn't bend or straighten it and that's why everyone thought it was more serious because normally when that happens it is an indicator it is a cruciate or medial ligament injury
"I came off and saw their specialist and he said the swelling suggested it was serious. But when I went for a scan they said it was a ruptured fat pad which is just under the knee cap and it basically popped.
"I also tore a bit of my ligament but that will heal in the time I have rested.
"I did the warm up and got involved in the keep-ball session yesterday and hopefully I will join in full training tomorrow and be fit for Saturday.
"It is up to the manager if he thinks I am fit and sharp enough to play me. I would love to start but hopefully I am on the bench at least."
