Former Coventry City defender Craig Pead has been forced to retire with a knee injury.

The Bromsgrove born but Coventry bred midfielder and defender came through City's Academy ranks, winning the Covsupport News Service Young Player Of The Year Award and made 27 (+18 sub) first team appearances for Coventry before being released in 2005.

He had already been on loan at Notts County and joined Walsall where he made 100 appearances.

He joined Brentford and made the PFA Team Of The Year in his first season but only made nine appearances in the season just gone due to the knee injury which has forced his retirement.

Pead told the Hounslow Chronicle: "It's hard to come to terms with. I've been playing football since I could walk, but the knee injury has taken it's toll and has ended my career.

"I've had it for a few years and it's just got worse. I didn't think it would hit me so soon, but I've got to think of the bigger picture."

All at Covsupport News Service wish him well.
