Coventry City defender Richard Keogh has set the bar high for his expectations for the coming season and he wants to get off to the best possible start with a win over Leicester City tomorrow.

Keogh, who was the only Coventry player not to miss a game all season, is determined to replicate the feat again this term.

Keogh has dismissed the speculation suggesting Coventry will struggle this season and has cited the form that manager Andy Thorn inspired when he took over the running of the team. He also pointed out that Blackpool were among the favourites for the drop in the season they won promotion to the Premier League.

He has set his sights high, perhaps even a promotion play-off place, but certainly on a top half of the table finish.

Keogh said, “I’m pretty sure that when Blackpool were promoted the other year they had been tipped to go down, so that just goes to show that the bookies don’t always get it right."

“People can say what they like but we’re very much focused on how we are going to move the club forward. We showed in the last ten games of last season that we can compete at a very high level and the pre-season has gone great."

"It’s been very hard and competitive, not just in the games but in training as well. Everybody’s looking sharp and the team spirit is brilliant. It’s all right having these big squads and I’m sure the gaffer would like to add one or two more like anybody else, but I think he wants to keep us close-knit because of the way we battle for each other."

“We’ve got such a good understanding now and I don’t see why we can’t finish top half and even be pushing for the play-offs. That’s what we all talked about at the end of last season when we were playing the likes of Reading, Norwich, Watford and Millwall and getting some really positive results.”
