Coventry City defender Richard Wood has said that he wants to get fit and get back in the team.

Wood who scored City Reserves opening goal in their 2-2 draw with Northampton Town yesterday told Sky Blue Player: "My season starts now because I didn't really play pre-season. I just want to get fit now and try and get back in the team.

"I just needed to get through the reserve game, play well and hopefully see what the gaffer does for the weekend.

"We haven't got a big squad at the moment and I'd like to think I'm experienced as well. I think that is what we need at the minute.

"Hopefully we can get all the lads back fit and all the experienced players back helping out the team. With that, hopefully the gaffer has more of a choice and it will give him something to think about.

"The mood has been really good to be honest and we've been playing some good football in training. The Barnsley match was a bit of a blip because we didn't play at all to what we can do.

"But we know we have been playing well, we just have to keep at it. We have been unlucky in certain games where we have dropped points but played well in. Hopefully with a bit of luck and more bodies back in the squad, we can put a good run together."
