I Still Need Match Practice - Deegan

Coventry City midfielder Gary Deegan feels that he still needs match practice.

The Irishman was not getting carried away after his first twenty minutes at the Ricoh Arena in over a year.

Speaking to Sky Blue Player at the club’s weekly press conference, Deegan said: "It's nice to be back but I am not getting carried away, I've only played 20 minutes.

"I am naturally a fit lad but it is just a case of gaining match fitness now.

"You can do all the training you like but coming into a match is completely different.

"If I can get a couple of matches under my belt, or keep coming on, I will eventually get there.

"I'm not going to lie, I've gone through a few bad patches. "But I have had good friends and family around me that kept my spirits up.

"I hadn't played at the Ricoh Arena in over a year so it gave me a bit of a lift.

"All my family were over from Ireland. They didn't even think I was going to come on but I was messing with them, telling them I would run over to them if I scored.

“It was nice to go over to them and give them a little 'thumbs up'."
