Aron Gunnarsson, whose contract at Coventry City ran out at midnight on June 30th and who rejected the deal they offered him, looks set to be leaving for pastures new.

Gunnarsson's agent Jerry de Koning has said a deal could be finalised within the next 48 hours, with Cardiff City  the current favourite destination.

Speaking to Wales Online he said, “There are many clubs who want to sign Aron and Cardiff City are among the favourites."

“Nothing has been finalised yet, but a deal should be completed within the next 24 to 48 hours. The main factor to be finalised is a compensation payment to Coventry City. Cardiff City have a good chance of signing Aron.”

Even though Gunnarsson is out of contract and available to move on a free transfer, a development fee would be payable under the Bosman ruling because the player involved is under 24 year of age.

Gunnarsson's agent has been negotiating with several clubs on his clients behalf and Koning said, “Coventry offered Aron a new deal, but that didn’t meet with what we think he is worth."

“There has been a lot of interest from big clubs in big leagues. A lot of clubs in the Championship enquired, one or two in the Premiership plus some in Germany and Holland. We have been weighing up our options.”
