Gilbert Wants City Deal

Defender Peter Gilbert has said that he would like to play for Coventry City.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man has been training over pre-season with Huddersfield Town and played for City for forty minutes in the Marcus Hall Testimonial on Sunday against Everton.

"I need to speak to the manager this week and see what his thoughts are," said Gilbert to the CT.

"He wants to take a look at me and we will take it from there. It is still an early stage but whatever the manager wants me to do I will do.

"I had an opportunity to go to Southend last week and got 90 minutes there against Stevenage Borough on Friday night and then I got a phone call to come here to Coventry, which is obviously a fantastic club and a great opportunity for me.

"The fact that I had played 90 minutes didn't bother me because I wanted to get here as soon as possible, so I travelled straight back on Friday night and then met the guys on Saturday, and then went straight into the squad on Sunday.

"I was pretty shattered, to be honest, because I trained with Southend on Thursday and did a running session with them. I had driven there from Sunderland which took me five hours, so it has all taken its toll really, but the opportunity was there for me to come here on trial and I was never going to turn it down."
