Fletcher Calls For Less Swearing

City's Managing Director Paul Fletcher today has today steamed head first into a row over "abusive songs, chants and songs with obscenities in them.

Sparked by objections to the song sung for Dennis Wise which originally started during Wise's tiime at Millwall,Fletcher issued a press statement saying:
"We have noticed over the past few games, both at home and away, that the number of such incidents has dramatically increased which is a concern. "This sort of behaviour only serves to incite negative feelings towards Coventry City which flies in the face of everything we are trying to achieve for the Club.

Increased tensions between fans will result in three things for the Club, namely:
1. Higher policing costs in response to the threat of increased violence,
2. Less families visiting the Ricoh,
3. Fewer away fans visiting the Ricoh.

All of which is bad news for Coventry City in financial and goodwill terms. "We are determined to make a visit to the Ricoh a great day out for all fans, especially families and female supporters.
"If we are realistically going to achieve our goal of Premiership football in 3 years, we will need to grow our fan base by at least 50% in order to fund a solid, competitive squad.

"Fans who participate in this negative behaviour may think it's clever at the time - but the reality is that they are hurting their own club. We will be monitoring things over the next couple of games and if it continues we will have no option other than to start ejecting the ring leaders.

"Over time we would like Coventry City to be seen as one of the friendliest Clubs in the land. This can be achieved, but only with the co-operation of every Sky Blue supporter."
