Fitness First For Coleman

Coventry City manager Chris Coleman is using this pre-season to concentrate on developing fitness.

"Myself and the staff are back and a few of the lads have been popping in and out just to make sure they have kept on top of their summer fitness programmes so tomorrow we will all come back and we will see where we are," said Coleman to the club website.

"Pre-season is always tough because you have to make sure you get the players as fit as possible but I am looking forward to it.

"We have our first pre-season game against Wrexham on July 11 so we have to make sure all of the players get plenty of minutes under their belt. It's more about the fitness than the results at this stage but it will be good to have a game of football again."

Last season, Coleman took the City team for pre-season training to Austria & Switzerland. However, this season, the global recession has meant that the Sky Blues have not been able to have their training costs, flights and accommodation met and they are staying at home.

Added Coleman:
"We went on a couple of trips last pre-season because I wanted to get to know the guys a bit better but we decided to stay a bit closer to home this year so hopefully we can squeeze in as much preparation as possible and hopefully put ourselves in the best possible position to start the new season."
