Team GB mens football team got their first victory in the London 2012 Olympic football tournament with a 3-1 victory over the United Arab Emirates.

Former Coventry City forward Craig Bellamy, who scored in the 1-1 draw against Senegal, crossed for Ryan Giggs to head Stuart Pearce's side into a sixteenth minute lead.

Former City youngster Danny Sturridge came on as a substitute at half-time but fifteen minutes into the second half, the UAE equalised when Rashed Eisa ran on to a through ball and slipped the ball home.

Pearce sent on Scott Sinclair and in the 72nd minute, he had got onto a Craig Bellamy cross which had been fumbled by the UAE keeper, to give Britain the lead with a simple tap-in.

Three minutes later and a good win was rounded off when Danny Sturridge superby lobbed the ball over the keeper after making the most of a through ball.

Bellamy was replaced with eight minutes to go by former City loanee Jack Cork.

The victory means that Britain now need to avoid defeat in their final game against Uruguay on Wednesday in order to progress.
