Doyle Backs Heath

Michael Doyle has backed Adrian Heath for the managers job on a permanent basis. The midfielder who admitted that he was sick and tired of the abuse given to Peter Reid who picked him for every game he was fit or eligible for and who claims to speak for most of the players, told the CET:

"We needed a bit of a rollicking at half time and Heath gave us that. "And to be fair, I think we came out in the second half against Crewe playing a lot better. He got his points across and the players respect him.

"He has his own ideas as well which is good. In training he told us how he wants things done and didn't just stick to how the manager did things. So it was good to see a change, although I am not saying there was anything wrong with Peter Reid's ideas, but Adrian coming in and being his own man was great.

"I think it is great that he is going for the job because at least he knows the squad whereas if someone new comes in they will have to run the rule over the squad and start from scratch again.

"But Adrian knows exactly what he has got and what he needs, and the players are happy enough to see him here because he is well liked and a lot of people have respect for what he has done in the game. And he knows his stuff.

"He would also provide continuity and I think we showed in the second half how much he has picked everyone up after what went on last week.

"No one was happy seeing the manager go but Adrian helped everyone focus and it was nice to get a win for him.

"I know there weren't many fans but we did it for them. But I think all the players would like to dedicate the victory to Inchy because it must have been harder for him than any of us because he has worked with Peter Reid for so long.

"And for him to stay and do what he did on Saturday was great. So I hope he gets the job because I have worked with him and I really like him."
