Former Coventry City manager Iain Dowie, who yesterday was confirmed as Phil Brown's successor at Hull City has claimed his appointment is no gamble,

Dowie told Mirror Sport, "There has been many a big-name manager who has gone to a club and not been successful. I believe I know my way around the training ground."

"I don't think I'm a gamble. If you look at my record, it's fairly productive. You look at my record at Oldham and I took them to the play-offs. I got promotion with Crystal Palace and saved Coventry from relegation."

Dowie will have a difficult job to save Hull from relegation, although the Tigers are only three points from safety.

Tim Flowers, Dowie's  assistant while he was at Coventry City has left Northampton Town to become his assistant at Hull.
