The Coventry City Former Players Association are delighted to announce that the Association’s ‘Special Guest’ at the Scunthorpe home game next Tuesday night (10th February 2015) will be Sky Blue F.A.Cup hero from the mid 80s, David Phillips.

German born (to an RAF father) this cultured full back/midfielder was nevertheless capped over 60 times for Wales including during his time at Coventry. David started out at Plymouth Argyle in 1979 moving to Manchester City in 1984 where he made nearly 100 appearances before being brought to Highfield Road from Maine Road in June 1986 with goalkeeper Perry Suckling moving the other way. As well as gaining a Cup medal with the Sky Blues he made 124 first team appearances in all competitions with the Sky Blues (11 goals). His talents were always in demand and he moved to Norwich City in summer 1989 and later Nottingham Forest in 1993, both for big money.

David wound down his professional career with Huddersfield Town (1997), Lincoln City (1999) and Stevenage (2001) gravitating on retirement to coaching and media work. City fans will probably be aware that David really enjoys following the burgeoning career of his son, Sky Blue defender Aaron Phillips (currently recovering from injury)

Due to another commitment David may not be able tour the Ricoh lounges before the game but he will be joining the BBC CWR matchday commentary team to provide running analysis on the game in which the Sky Blues will striving to create their first Ricoh win in the league since last October.

Hopefully both David and Aaron will be tempted to meet the fans after the game on the stage in Lady Gs at the G-Casino in the entertaining company of CCFPA’s Billy Bell. Welcome David!
