Coventry City seek legal advice over Fleck

Coventry City are hoping to sign John Fleck later today, but only if legal experts agree that no fee will be payable.

Fleck, along with several other players, has opted to walk away from Rangers who have been placed into liquidation. The claim is that their current contracts were with the previous owners and not the current Rangers Newco.

Andy Thorn is keen to add to his squad now that pre-season training is underway and the attacking midfielder Fleck is one of his targets, but as the club has little cash to spend, most of the deals will have to be free transfers.

It is understood that the deal has been done and all that is preventing Fleck from signing is the question over whether Coventry will have to stump up a fee of some sort later on which is why legal opinion has been sought.

Charles Green, who is the new owner of newco Rangers claims all the players who have walked out on the Scottish club will command a transfer fee and has written to all clubs considering signing his former players saying the players have breached their contracts and are not free agents.

Green is in the minority and is the only party who believes a fee will be payable and none of the clubs who have signed former rangers players, or who are considering signing them, believe a fee will be payable.
