Cole & Maddison Can Play Together - Mowbray

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that Joe Cole and James Maddison can play in the same team but it might take a change of formation.

Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner:  “We might need a formation change, perhaps play one of them in a wider area, because generally they both want to play in the same area of the pitch.

“We’ve got a lot of attacking players with different attributes and you don’t make changes for the sake of it or just because you’re looking to rest players – you always try to pick the team you think can hurt the opposition and protect your own team out of possession.

“Time will tell but, yes, there will be times when they’re on the pitch together – though whether you start that way is another question.

“Free-kicks? That will be interesting!

“We were having that discussion the other day. James has shown his talent yet Joe stuck one into the top corner from 35 yards against Barnsley and if he’d been on the pitch at Chesterfield, young Maddison probably wouldn’t have taken the free-kick.

“But I’ll leave that to them. A lot of it comes down to how you’re feeling at the time and I won’t appointing a designated free-kick taker.”
