Coventry City captain Sammy Clingan has been ruled out of Northern Ireland's European Championship qualifying game in Italy on Tuesday.

Clingan started the last Saturday's game against Estonia, which they went on to lose 2-1, but he had to be replaced after 32 minutes having suffered a back spasm.

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington had initially hoped that Clingan would have recovered in time to the trip to Pescara, Italy, but he has now been ruled out of contention.

It is unclear at the moment if Clingan will be able to play for Coventry City on Saturday when they entertain Nottingham Forest.
