Coventry City are expected to sign Chris Stokes.

The defender has been offered terms by the Sky Blues and Stokes who is a free agent after being released by Forest Green Rovers is currently away on honeymoon after getting married on Saturday.

City boss Tony Mowbray is hoping that a deal will be relatively easy to agree and told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “That’s not always the case because advisors get involved and have their own ideas about what value their players might be.

“I think his advisors will be getting on with the contract side of things. Steve Waggott has done the initial negotiations and sometimes it’s easier for that to continue with the agent.

"He’s had contact with him in the past and done the deal and I’m happy and hopefully it won’t take too long for that to get to a head.

“But obviously for him to sign we have top wait for him to get back from his honeymoon. There’s no rush and we’ll see how that progresses.

"The reason we have offered him a new deal is because I think he’s an improver, really. I think he was probably one of our better players in the last three or four games and showed me he’d taken great strides; that he’d listened well and worked very hard on the training ground.

“His physical stats were immense with the work-rate and effort he puts into everything he does and because he was improving and getting better I felt that if that is hopefully a continued line, where does that stop?

“That’s why I thought it was worth trying to keep him at the club to see where that would stop with the coaching and advice given to him.”
