City Scottish Tour Travel Advice

if you are planning on going to see Coventry City on their pre-season tour of Inverness next week and you don't fancy the long drive up, there are alternatives.

The three games are at Brora Rangers on Tuesday, Ross County in Inverness on Wednesday and Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday.

Now the first game at Brora, which was the first place in northern Scotland to have electricity, constitutes a bit of a challenge for those residing in Coventry, Warwickshire and the West Midlands..

Unfortunately, the last train from Inverness to Brora in order for you to make kick off at 7.30 at Dudgeon Park does not fit in with the time that the train from Coventry/ Nuneaton or Birmingham or the flight from Birmingham arrives in Inverness.

So the choices are:

* Travel the day before and stay overnight in Inverness

* Get a morning flight from Luton, Manchester or Gatwick

* Get the Scot Rail sleeper train train via Nuneaton and Crewe which arrives in Inverness at 8.38am.

Then, when you are in Inverness get the 13.59 train from Inverness to Brora, arriving there at 16.18.

There are no trains from Brora back to Inverness after the game, so you will need to find accommodation in the coastal village or close by.

The Wednesday night game against Ross County at Inverness Clachnacuddin FC, which also is a 7.30pm kick off, is relatively straight forward.

The 07.42 train from Coventry is due in at 17.54, the train from Nuneaton at 15.23 whilst the once a day flight from Birmingham is scheduled to land at 15.45. There is a half hourly bus from the airport to Inverness city centre and the train station is twenty minutes on foot from the ground.

With the Scottish Open golf having finished, there should be more accommodation in Inverness available over the week.

The final game against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday July 21st, which has a 3pm kick off, will also present a challenge for those using public transport.

If this is the only game you can get to and you are reliant on public transport then making a weekend of it by travelling on the Friday and coming back Sunday is highly recommended.

There are however other alternatives such as:

* The 22.30 National Express coach from Birmingham on the Friday night and then changing for the 7.30am at Glasgow to Inverness, getting in at 11.35am

* The morning flight from Luton, Manchester or Gatwick

* Taking the sleeper train from Nuneaton which leaves Crewe at 23.54 (you must make a reservation in order to travel on this train) and arrives in Inverness at 8.38am.
