Former City midfielder Chris Marsden has retired after failing to recover from a hamstring injury. Marsden who played for City,Wolves,Southampton and a club in South Korea before joining Sheffield Wednesday and becoming their captain has been out since October and faced with the prospect of not playing for the rest of this season and some of next, he decided to retire. The 36-year-old said: "I feel devastated I've had to make this decision, but I'm not 21 any more and the only other option was to sit at the club getting paid.

Carlton Palmer is expected to be named the permanent Mansfield Town manager tomorrow. The former City midfielder was appointed after an incident involving Stags boss Keith Curle and has done a good job ever since.

Michael Briscoe has joined Burton Albion from Macclesfield Town. Briscoe played a number of games for City Reserves last season after joining the club from Northamptonshire Sunday League club Harpole,but did not make any first team appearances.
