Coventry City have launched a full investigation after hearing that midfielder Kevin Thornton had been found guilty of motoring offences.

The Irishman was found guilty failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving with excess alcohol, driving without a full licence and with no insurance. He was fined £2,750 and ordered to pay costs and compensation of 260.

On hearing this, the club who didn't know about this, issued a statement saying: "City officials have met with the player and a representative from the PFA and are now looking further into the matter.

"We take all matters of discipline extremely seriously and have to go through the relevant procedures. We are urgently looking into this matter and have spoken to the player and several other parties surrounding what has taken place.

"The process is on-going and we will be having formal meetings with the player and his representatives before the matter reaches a conclusion.

"The club will be making no further comment until the conclusion of its investigations."
