Coventry City Ladies midfielder Hayley Ladd played for Wales Women this afternoon in their opening Algarve Cup game.

At VRS Antonio, Wales took on hosts Portugal. They battled well early on but conceded a penalty when Kylie Davies cleared off the line.

This meant Portugal led 1-0 at the break and despite the best efforts of Seattle Reign's Jessica Fishlock, the home side added a second in the second half to win 2-0.

Unfortunately, for Ladd, she was shown a second yellow card in the 92nd minute.

Wales play Mexico on the same ground on Friday and face Hungary in Quarteira on Monday before a positional match next Wednesday.

Former Coventry City Ladies defender Laura Bassett played for England in a 4-2 victory over Italy in the Cyprus Cup.
